I have just completed my first wedding photography job proper. Although I’ve done loads of weddings over the last 20 years, I’ve never done one with a view to it being my main income. So this was indeed a first. I photographed Barry and Thelma, who got married in Eastbourne Town Hall on Saturday.
The day began for me at Shinewater Lake for parkrun in Eastbourne. I regularly run 5k every Saturday morning in Brighton but, as this was to be my first wedding photography project in Eastbourne, I thought it a good opportunity to run at a different event. I made my way over to Eastbourne Town Hall after breakfast at the Toby Cavery.
The registry office at Eastbourne is quite small, but nicely furnished and with stained glass windows. There is also a rather elegant grand staircase which make for splendid entrance and exit photos of the bride and groom. Although on the day, it was somewhat gloomy inside and I decided shots outside would look better. So we took family and close friends pictures on the steps.
The reception was at the Cumberland Hotel and I was invited to eat with the guests, which was something I had not expected. My wife had made a packed lunch for me! I took Barry and Thelma over to the seafront for a few shots with the pier behind, but try as I might, I could persuade them to sit down on the beach for some more informal photographs! They complained they’d never get up again!
I finished shooting after the speeches and cutting of the cake and left at 4pm. Congratulations to both Barry and Thelma and good luck in your new life together. With any luck this was the first wedding photography job of many for Occasion Photos!
